FISHING LICENCES.

A person may fish in the sea from the shore without licence with a maximum of two fishing rods, Whether you wish to fish from a boat or enjoy freshwater angling in the lakes and rivers of Land of Valencia, you will need to be in possession of a licence to carry out the hobby. A licence to fish will last for either one year, or for three years depending on which type of licence you apply for and, accordingly, how much you pay. There is no facility for short-term licences for those here on holiday but in any case, the cost is a fairly reasonable at 6.25 euros for a sea fishing licence or 7.60 euros for a freshwater licence (21.95 euros for three years). Under 14's and pensioners are not required to pay this tax upon production of suitable identity.

FRESHWATER FISHING.

The nearest freshwater fishing available to Torrevieja is the 'Embalse de Pedrera', a freshwater reservoir situated off the main road between San Miguel de Salinas and Bigastro. Travelling from San Miguel, look out for the restaurants 'Vista Bella' and 'La Fortaleza' and turn right about two hundred metres past them following the signposts towards Torremendo. Here, you can expect to catch reasonable sized carp and other common species. Access to the lake is not good in places but you can reach fairly close by car and walk down to the lakeside. Before setting out you must be in possession of a freshwater fishing licence, a 'Licencia de Pesca Fluvial’. The freshwater licence is also possible to do it in Torrevieja at the "Caja Rural" located in Campoamor st., 78. Phone number: 9657153 82/72 22

FISHING IN THE SEA.

In order to fish from a small boat, one should first be in possession of a licence to carry out the activity. The licence, called a 'Licencia de Pesca - Maritima Recreo' costs a little less than a freshwater licence and, again is valid for a period of either one or three years. There are no 'short term' licences available.
